What’s Up?! and Welcome to the 71ate Chef Blog

Whats up?! and Welcome to the 71ate Chef blog! Now, most of you are probably wondering, “What in the world is 71ate?” Here’s a little background.

My family migrated from South Carolina to Brooklyn in the late 1960’s where they purchased our home in the Bedford Stuyvesant area aka Bed Stuy aka The Stuy. I was born approximately 15 years later at Brookdale Hospital in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn, NY.

“At the time of its creation on September 1, 1984, the 718 code was assigned only to Brooklyn…”

This was almost 2 years after I was born.

Sean Carter has JAY-Z, Ina Garten has the Barefoot Contessa so how would I, a fellow “Brooklynite” honor the dopest borough, in a city that nurtured my passion? Naming my culinary alter ego the 71ate  Chef.

It’s that simple. All one word people, not seventy one ate…

My future posts will contain recipes which is going to be quite fun and challenging for me since I’m juggling work, being a personal chef, freelancing as a food stylist, creating interesting content for my blog AND being a new mom to an energetic and loving 9 month old. I’m a chef who has culinary knowledge passed down to me from my parents and grandma who didn’t use recipes and professional training which most of the time, especially in baking you use recipes. Lots of product testing, reviews, and me ranting about being a struggling artist (yes cooking is an art form) from time to time.
